More than Buoys Required: Ram Jack Steel Piles Secure Marina

Ridley Park, Pennsylvania

At 401 S Swathmore Avenue, Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, the Ridley Park project was set into motion. A new restaurant was planned, and the team at Ram Jack Tri-States was commissioned to make it possible.

PROBLEM
The area where the restaurant was to be located was on a marina. Unfortunately, this marina was sitting at around 20 ft. off of the river ground water. This presented an immediate issue that Ram Jack knew had to be resolved before the new construction could get the green light. Once the issue was identified, Ram Jack worked with J Barbato and Associates for structural design assistance, as well as DoLente & Sons for professional concrete work.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
Scott MacKay from Ram Jack Tri-States quickly determined the need to install a total of 283 Helical Piles (of 3 1⁄2 in. shaft dia. each) in order to effectively support the pile caps. They would also need to install grade beams and a structural floor to maintain the safety, strength, and longevity of the structure.

OUTCOME
Ram Jack’s proposed solution went precisely according to plan with no mishaps or errors. Ram Jack successfully installed a total of (283) 3 1⁄2 in. dia. helical piles, with an average pile depth of 30 ft. This pile installation process took a total of two months, with on-and-off work periods performed in phases. J Barbato and Associates efficiently handled the entire structural design process, and DoLente & Sons managed all concrete work flawlessly. Loads included 37 kips (allowable) and 74 kips (ultimate). This new construction project was officially declared complete, and the river ground water situation was no longer a pressing issue. The restaurant could be built without any further concerns surrounding structural integrity.
