Case Studies Ram Jack Supports Boardwalk with Helical Piles

COMMUNITY SAFETY: ONE BOARDWALK PILE AT A TIME
Marstons Mills, MA
When poor soil threatened community activities and safety, Ram Jack knew what to do. Twenty-eight Ram Jack piles secured a
boardwalk in a timely manner for the Barnstable, Massachusetts community, staying on a tight timeline and providing safety for
pedestrians near a busy intersection.

PROBLEM
In Barnstable, Massachusetts, the Marstons Mills’ Mill Pond Herring Run is a local attraction at the edge of a busy intersection. The poor
soil of the site required a solution to improve both access and safety for its pedestrian traffic.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
The town was required to build a boardwalk to improve public access. The boardwalk would need to withstand the Mill Pond’s
unsuitable soils. Ram Jack partnered with a local general contractor to provide a solution that met both the town’s stringent timeline
and solved the safety issues.

OUTCOME
Ram Jack installed 28 piles with boardwalk brackets engineered to withstand a load of 9 Kips vertical and 3 Kips lateral. Due to Ram Jack’s coordination and efforts, the project stayed on its timeline. Now the Barnstable community has safe access to enjoy the sights of the Mill
Pond in conjunction with the annual Herring Run.
